I have been studying the evolution of social media marketing since 2002, but have made it my focus since 2007. And after a combined eight years of carefully engaging and listening, my chief observation has been that social media marketing is essentially a study in the human condition. Understand who you should be selling to, who you should leave to someone else and what motivates qualified prospects and you know all you need to know to fashion a voice buyers listen to and even better, listen for. Combine these common sociological observations with a deep comprehension of internet marketing best practices and the technologies that support them and you can grow your social footprint beyond your imagination.
On my blog I discuss the human social patterns that influence buying habits, brand loyalty and our sales demeanor. It is my contention that when we combine what we know of common social rules and the principles of social networking, we arrive at the prevailing conventions that influence modern sales engagement rituals. From our findings, we can then form measurable lead generating campaigns that support your company’s overarching marketing and sales initiatives.
What is Social Media Marketing?
Social media marketing is better know today by the names content marketing and inbound marketing. It is not an industry, so much as it is a marketing channel still very much in its infancy. Social media itself is nothing more than a toolbox actually. Marketing is an industry, but social media? No. It’s tantamount to holding a microphone in your hand. Can you sing? If you can, do you know the words everyone wants to hear you sing? If you do, can you perform to your audience’s satisfaction? If you can, do you know where the venues are?

What I Bring to the Table
As I mentioned, I am a disciple of an approach to internet marketing that deals in marrying the fundamental principles that govern sound, social networking strategy with those that examine immutable human communal laws. The people I work with best get excited about building their brand using the internet. With me, the focus is on launching measurable social initiatives conceived by what we already know of human behavior. The more we know about our audience, the further down the sales funnel they are when we discover them. Conversely, the less we know and the less we listen, the more shouting we end up doing and the more fruitless our efforts to persuade become.
On a Personal Note
I am a writer, a musician and a loving father. I love talking to people. I have traveled all over the world and am a proud survivor of an upbringing fraught with poverty and struggle. Among my favorite things to do is learn and I revel in opportunities to prove something to doubters. For me, one of the coolest feeling in the world both professionally and personally is had when we unravel problems others have not been able to work out. Oh and my family and I are life-long New York Jets fan.
Mark Twain once said he never let school interfere with his education. When he said that, he was almost certainly referring to someone whose life resembles mine.
